About Annelise
Hi, I’m Annelise. I am here to walk with people through the process of becoming less stuck. I help individuals and couples identify and understand the patterns of behaviour that keep us stuck and achieving negative outcomes in life (e.g., tension in relationships, ways of coping that hurt us, anxiety, etc.). We work to understand what purpose these patterns serve us, and to change the patterns in a way that respects both the people that we were and the people we are becoming. The work that we do together is at times exploratory, and at other times actively changing thoughts and behaviours that keep us stuck.

I have experience in helping couples work through relationship difficulties, and in helping individuals understand and respond to depression, anxiety, and stress in their life. I talk with clients about grieving different losses that occur. These areas are important to me because they are real, and are so difficult to navigate on our own. Talking about them with someone else allows us to experience support, acceptance, and caring; the knowledge that we aren’t alone.

I tell my clients that I like to work collaboratively. I ask many questions, and we explore together what you are facing, and what it is like for you to experience it. We talk about emotions, thoughts, behaviours, and past experiences; basically we talk about what makes you, you.

A bit more about me: I headed back to university after both my kids were in school full time, finally knowing a career path that I connected with. I completed a bachelors degree in psychology at Brock University, then completed a masters degree in counselling psychology through Yorkville University. I enjoyed and benefited from these learning experiences, but am happy to be doing what I trained for so long to do!

While I am excited to be in therapy sessions, continued learning is important to me so I can provide the best care possible. I have undergone additional training in specific areas: Grief & Loss, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for couples, and I am signed up for a course on the ADHD brain.

Outside of work, I spend my time with my kids and partner; we like to be active so we end up at the park playing sports of some sort. My favourite place to be is on a camp site in a Provincial Park in the summer. In the every day, I enjoy running, baking, and reading novels and watching drama television.

There have been many times in my life where I felt alone in a struggle, and where I was unsure that I’d be able to make any difference in how things were going for me. I could have benefited greatly from having a safe space to talk about things that made me feel afraid or stuck, and where I could learn practical ways I could make a difference in my own life. Each person will bring their own unique story. I want to create a safe space you can speak freely about they’re struggling with, not be alone in it, and find a way to be active in making a desired change.

If you’re looking to talk with me through some of what has you stuck, reach out. I’m available by video and in person, and talk with couples and individuals over the age of 18. I look forward to getting to know you.
Courage is not the absence of fear; courage is fear walking.
